It was established in January 1960 as tomakomai city youth center in order to foster the scientific minds of young people and to improve and develop local culture. In November 1985, with the opening of the new museum, the Science Department was enhanced, and the “Tomakomai City Science Center” was re-established, and the “Mir Exhibition Hall” opened in December 1999.
