In January 1970, it was established as the Tomakomai City Youth Center in order to nurture the spirit of science among young people and to improve and develop the local culture. In November 1985, with the opening of the new museum, the science department was enhanced, and the "Tomakomai City Science Center" started anew, and in December 1999 the "Mir Exhibition Hall" opened.
